Which, I guess since it's at my aunt and uncle's farm (well, it used to be a farm), I guess it's really the G family picnic, but anyway.
I had a good time. More people showed up than we had thought were, and I mostly spent time with my cousins M, A, and their kids. Most shocking was finding out M got married! I didn't know she was engaged! I saw her husband briefly, and he seems nice. Hopefully, they'll come up for Thanksgiving so I can actually meet him. A's daughter, L, made it onto the all-star team for softball! :) L is the same age as E (L is ONE MONTH older) and yet....the differences between the two...WOW. L told me she weighs 80 lbs, and I wouldn't be surprised if E doesn't weigh twice that, or more. I know E is wearing clothing bigger than what I wear. L also seems to be a bit more mature than E. L also is more active, which I'm sure contributes to the weight. Either way, I'd love to see the two of them together to be able to compare them some more (heyy, let's put that human development degree to use!), but L's family never makes it up to the family Thanksgivings.
I also found some interesting things about one of my other cousins. Things that really worry me and have me concerned, but I don't think there's anything that can be done to help her. She's spiraling down a pretty bad path, though. She also is barely communication with her family, including me. But she works at Towson Town Center, so I might have to take a trip down there and catch her at work and use visiting _falnfenix_ as an excuse for my being there.
"little" C (age 15) and W (age...8, i think) spent a lot of time playing together. Mom thought it was weird until I pointed out that when I was 15, I was playing with M and P, who would have been 5 and 9 at the time.
A lovely stormed rolled in sometime in the afternoon, but it never actually rained. Just a lot of noise and lightening in the distance. I spent most of the time with M's little girl, C, while M got their things together to leave. C is soo cute, I'm hoping I've got a picture of her. Every time there was a clap of thunder, she'd cover her ears. It was adorable.
Food-wise, I was glad mom and I decided to take over and bring what Aunt Barb usually brings. I realized that I usually eat the stuff she brings (veggie tray and cheese tray) and if we hadn't brought that along...I'd have had to live off red beet eggs. I suppose I could have asked G for a piece of cheese to put on a bun with some tomato and stuff, but the thought hadn't occurred to me since I had the veggie tray.
The ride home was great. Until we hit Cecil County Fair traffic. We were in traffic for an HOUR to move one mile. And then mom went through a red light, because she for some reason thought it should be green.
Got home and pretty much collapsed. I was wiped out! then, the storms came and I woke up a bunch of times from loud thunder, and we kept having flickers of either power or cable, I can't tell which. My clock was still normal, but my download onto my external got messed up a few times.
And now another storm is rolling in.
also, I've decided I can't ever look in the meat case at Weis again. The other day, we saw this lumpy stuff and didn't know what it was, and it was Pig Stomach (hog maw before it's stuffed). Okay, that I can handle. But today I saw a big Styrofoam thing of CHICKEN FEET and then Pig legs/hooves. I honestly almost threw up right there in the grocery store. I'm usually okay with looking at meat products, but.....Ewwwwww.
And now, time to make some dinner. |
