I think everyone should use their free v-gift to send me birthday wishes :p or to send silveradept good luck wishes, whichever ;)
In crafting news, I started working on a few things for a FMS swap, and for a Craftster swap. Tomorrow I organize myself and mark off when I need to be sending things by -- I somehow got involved in too many swaps than I'd really like to be involved in. It was an accident, I swear!
Then I need to make a list of supplies I need to round up. Hopefully between me, my mom, and some other relatives, I'll have everything I need for the swaps.
I also need to get some fleece somehow to make SA's pillows for his housewarming that I promised him months ago. (I told him i'd make him pillows as a housewarming gift, but i'd wait til he moved so I could just mail them to him instead of making him transport them) I need about a 1/2 yard each of Green, Red, Purple, White, and some black felt. I shouldn't need more than a half yard, I don't think. I also am planning on stenciling the block M onto two ice cream bowls that are in Blue and Maize for him, but so far I haven't found a decent M to use,and I also haven't found the shade of blue I need yet, so he might get them undecorated. We'll see.
( swaps i'm in with dates and stuff I'm making/need to make )
basically, I need to have four of the packages ready to go on the 27th, and I'm on track. I'm almost done my FMS swap to be honest, I've got the base coat on the picture frame - all it needs is whatever I decide to decorate it with, and then I have to do the photo CD, which won't take too much time - I can probably get it done this weekend. The other two photo frames I want to make I plan on making tomorrow while I still have all the paints and glue out. If I get my arse further in gear and print out my images for the magnets, I can also get started on those.
I did stop by the Rag Shop's going out of business sale this morning to see if they had any fleece, but they're all sold out of fabric. I did dip into my meager funds to spend $6 on a bunch of stuff that should have cost a lot more, most of which are for upcoming swaps. YAY for cheap ass swap stuff. Also, Rag Shop has patterns for .10/ea, so I scored a few patterns for some projects I have in the wings for certain people who are expecting a baby sometime in November.
Anyway. silveradept's given me something to do for him, which I think he's asking me to do so I still feel important (either that, or he's being lazy), and that's to map out his route to Tacoma, trying to avoid as many toll roads as possible, and getting him to at least visit Mount Rushmore on the drive out. It's fun. I told him I'll have a PDF for him by Monday with my route and stuff. I also did some research on an extended stay hotel for him, and found him one that's fairly "cheap" - $44/night as opposed to the $79/night one we had found first. It's the least I can do, since I'm not able to help him do the physical move.
While I was out at his house, he had me go through some of his old clothes and I was able to grab a few things for reconning. So...I now have A LOT of jeans and I want to create some kind of denim skirt out of it. I also got a hold of a few T-shirts. I might make some T-shirt reusable grocery bags for SA out of them, since they are his shirts, or I might try my hand at reconning them into smaller (tighter) shirts for me. We'll see which I decide to do. I also snagged two pairs of boxer briefs that SA said he never wore and never will wear. I was thinking I could wear these for bed, as I've been known to sleep in men's boxers. They're....odd. Makes me feel like I'm wearing spandex shorts or something. I'll try sleeping in them tonight and see how it feels.
I'm...doing okay, surprisingly. I think it's more to do with me having stuff to do over anything else, really. I still have a strong desire to just curl up under the blankets and have a good cry with the kitty, but I didn't give in to it, and that's the important part. It also helps that I did a lot of crafting today, and crafting keeps me calm and happy.
...I went to bed, and never pressed post. Oops.Strangely Feelin': discontent Current Music: Hannah Montana

Yep. Still in Ann Arbor. Why? Because a file SA and I are downloading to my external claims to only have less than a day left on it, so we figured we'd let it go and HOPE that it completes itself tomorrow!
Today I did more packing for SA. Well, and yesterday, too. I packed up his entire Kitchen and bathroom/medicine cabnet type stuff. I also cleaned out the microwave, because it's mineish, and I wanted SA to be able to take a clean microwave with him when he moves instead of something ikky and gross.
We also went out and did protesting at noon, and then back out for Ben & Jerry's ice cream this evening. We then stopped off in Dawn Treader, and I got a few books that are on my Amazon Wishlist (yay! Happy Early Birthday to me!) The one book I got is in hardback! Amazon wanted $11.98 for it in paperback, and I only paid $7.50 for it in hard! yay! I picked up two of the Doctor Who books that are based on older episodes. This'll have to do until I can get my hands on copies of the older series. And the last book I picked up is called "London Bridge" and is about some of the bridge's first inhabitats. All-in-all, I honestly paid LESS than what a brand new hardback book costs. Whee, I love used bookstores. Then, we went out for dinner at Za's, after witnessing SA walk the opposite direction through a fountain on campus (some type of tradition thing).
Still hoping SA will need/want me to drive out with him to Washington, cos I really want to go with him, but...ah, well. Told him he's stuck with me, even with his move to Tacoma :D
He set himself a reminder so he doesn't forget to call me on my birthday, too :).
It'll be okay. I mean, it SUCKS thinking about it, but really, it'll be okay. We'll work something out somehow.Strangely Feelin': blah

Today, silveradept and I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in IMAX 3-D. The 3-D bit was pretty cool - basically as they're mounting the thestrals and to the end of the film, you have to wear those goofy glasses. Pretty cool. Daniel Radcliffe was practically in my lap! ;) Although seeing "the kiss" that big was kind of gross. We had to cover our eyes, to keep Ginny from seeing it ;)
And now we're playing We (heart) Katamari. I love rolling things up, but I'm not too good at it. I keep getting angry king! eep!Strangely Feelin': depressed

Huh. So my internet hasn't gone out at all since yesterday morning when I had to reboot. Does that mean the signal "got better"?
Anyway. Today is going to be a lazy day of grocery shopping and last minute cleaning up.
I have to get to bed early because _falnfenix_'s mom suggested I leave here at like 4am because of stupid beltway traffic. So, basically, I have to leave before SA even does. I hate rush hour. |

I know i said on syrg's journal that I was tired of reading all the "moving to greatest journal" posts, but I discoverd that I already had a greatest journal out there, as annaonthemoon. Beats me when it was created though. Anyway. I spent most of the day using LJ-Sec to move my entires from here over there. Am I leaving LJ? No. But some of you who write fic are, and I want to make sure I have a way of continuing to read your stuff. So..if you ARE moving over to GJ, please add me and/or let me know. |

Apparently last night my connection stayed until 2:18AM, but I went to bed around 1230 because I was just fedup with the whole thing. I temporarily cancelled my large download, on the off chance that I'll keep my connection longer if it's not trying to suck that down. We'll see.
Yesterday I got up bright and early and went down to Central Market. Central is apparently the oldest Farmer's Market in the country/world! I picked up veggies for next week, and walked through market a few times, took some photos, and then decided to walk downtownish and see if I could find anything worth photographing. I went too far though. I wound up having to walk through parts that are considered "bad". Oops. But all in all, I walked about two miles, so that was a good thing.
Came home to discover that Sixthman apparently teamed up with Paste magazine to send a free issue, and an offer to get Paste for $9.95. I have no interest, but if anyone wants the deal, let me know and I'll make sure you get the subscription information.
Then had to deal with the internet mess while doing some cleaning.
Washed all my bedding to discover that something weird happened to my comforter in the dryer. At the bottom, the stuffing all bunched up and got real stiff. :( So, I'm using it for now, but as soon as I see a new Sun/Moon comforter, I'm going to get it. Since it's at the bottom, it won't bother my feet, but when I have taller people over, it might.
Plans for today....hopefully finish cleaning in the kitchen. Hopefully. Maybe I'll read a book and ignore the internet and only reboot things when I really need it.
If you need me, e-mail or AIM on my phone is probably best.

» Well, what do you know, there *is* a problem with my connection.
right.
Had to reboot it two more times, so I braved another call to Comcast.
I got an amazing woman named Michelle who knew my problem the second she loaded my account.
My modem isn't getting a signal. Either it's a problem with the line, or it's a problem with the modem. A tech will be here on Monday around 1PM. He's going to test the line/cabling first, and if it still fails, give me a new modem.
honestly, I'm not surprised. This modem is at least six years old at this point, and don't they usually die after five or six years?
I told Michelle about the problem with the first person, and Michelle said that that person shouldn't have even suggested there was a problem with my computer, because as soon as she brought up the connection to my modem, it was obvious it was receiving no/sporadic signal. She further said that the person probably didn't look up my modem, because as soon as I unplugged it to try another reboot, she received a message on her end that it had gone offline.
She told me I could reboot it each time it disconnects, and I might get 15-20 minutes of time out of it before it loses signal again. I might try to see if I can't mooch off the neighbor for the weekend, but if I'm not on, this is why.
It's just a big pain in my ass though, because I need to be able to plan out all the directions and stuff for next week and I need to be able to make plans with SA, and now I'm reduced to sending 133 character messages at a time through my cell phone. (which, btw I'm in AIM as BeccaOnCell)
I feel bad for the tech though. He's going to have to crawl around UNDER my house, and probably need me to show him how to remove the skirting.
Anyway, posting this before I lose connection again.
This also kinda screws SA and my plans for Monday. We have to go letterboxing later in the day, and have to make sure we don't fall asleep when we arrive back from BWI. Ah, well. At least I got an appointment on Monday. I told Michelle I was going to be Out of Town starting Tues, and while that's not entirely true, it's closer to the truth than anything else.
Sadly, the tech for tomorrow was all booked, or she said she'd have made sure he got here. Ah, well. Just sucks because I'm trying to re-download the fiesty DVD and get the old laptop set up to man my download while I'm in and out with this laptop next week, and now I can't download the updates!

» I'm going to shoot this person from comcast internet in the foot.
Maybe in the head too.
Seriously, rebooting a modem THREE TIMES within a half an hour is *not* normal.
And it's not my computer, as I have THREE LAPTOPS using the same connection. If one goes, they ALL go.
It's not my router either. I already attempted swapping out one router for another.
Honestly, stop telling me that I have a "firewall anti-virus" on my computer.
And stop telling me that i'm "not cooperating". I'm telling you EVERYTHING i did. I'm even telling you that I did all the things you're going to suggest I do ALREADY. How is this possibly NOT cooperating if I actually say to you "I rebooted the modem, i rebooted the router, i tried a different router, i tried no router" And restarting a computer is NOT a solution. If I restart it, it's still not going to connect!
Also, nice to tell me that my modem is online when I have it unplugged at the moment while i try reboot attempt #4. It can't possibly be online if it's unplugged. Either your system isn't real time, or you're telling me lies. And when I asked you if your system was real time, and flustering over an answer? not a good thing.
And is it some kind of sick-o policy to stick people on hold when they ask to speak with someone else so that way they can just get MORE frustrated? Because I tell you what lady who didn't even give me your name, you SUCK at your job.
I'm up to a half an hour on hold. You bet your ass that's going to be the first thing I make them aware of. If people were busy, you're supposed to tell your customer, not shove them on hold indefinitely. There's also no indication that I'm even on hold. The on-hold music failed out a good twenty minutes ago.
I've also had to reboot two more times since being shoved on hold. So, obviously there *is* a problem somewhere along the line.
I hung up. After being on hold for 58 minutes, I hung up, mostly because even though I was on the bluetooth headset...that headset is kinda on the heavy side for my ears.
*edit* and right after I hang up? I have to reboot the mother freaking modem. AARRGGG

» Ow.
My mom and I have this (bad) habit of instead of putting delicate glass (wine, etched, etc) into the drain board, we line them up in front of the drain board, so nothing falls on them.
Yeah. Such a great idea. Until you move a plate and it sends another plate into a stemmed water goblet. Plate and goblet went crashing to the floor, both shattering, and oh, the glass decided to shatter ON TOP OF MY FOOT and then bounce off onto the floor.
Fortunately, it wasn't one of our expensive glasses. It was an etched glass from Sus-Q Glass. And the plate was a dessert plate, and we have tons of those and don't use them anyway because when we have meals that need dessert plates, we're usually using the good china and it's matching dessert plate, so I'm not too upset over the actual breaking. Just....annoyed, really.
And in pain. Ow. My finger hurts too, right under my nail on my thumb. I hope I didn't get a tiny shard in there when I was picking it all up.
It doesn't look like I did too much damage to my foot. There isn't a long gash or anything, just a few tiny scrape-ish looking things from where the glass bounced off my foot as it broke.

» Pick Your Partner HP Swap
My partner from the Harry Potter 'ship swap invited me to be her partner in another HP swap. :D
And, I know what I want to make for her, but I need to get an opinion on this. I want to make her a model of the veil in the dept of mysteries. BUT, my question to you all is if you've ever seen mini "archways" anywhere, or what you think I could make it out of. I was thinking wooden if they pre-exist. Sort of like doll-house sized, maybe a little larger than that. Opinions?
There will be other things, too, but this idea for making a veil popped into my head. Ooh, maybe I could make it out of grey legos glued togther? But then where would I get all those grey legos? Hmmm.
-- I'm also in a Photo swap right now, and when I went down to market this morning I took some pictures while wandering downtown for it. Should be a nice swap.
-- and, of course, I still have to decide on the FMS swap. I sort of want to do it, but I'm sort of afraid, because what if my partner lists two things that I'm not interested in and/or can't figure out how to craft for?

» It's a DAY of bad service, apparently.
I Can Has Cheezburger gets the bad service tag. Or maybe it's more the "didn't think of that" tag. They were offering a set of 12 buttons on their site for $10 (included shipping). They started selling them around June 21 or so, with a ship date of July 2. I ordered my set immediately, as I enjoy the lolcats on the site, and who doesn't want a tofuburger button? I was planning on taking the tofuburger one for myself, and then offering the other ones to my fellow ICHC fans on my friends list. Anyway. It dawned on me last week that I never got my buttons. So, I sent them an email. No response. Then, I wanted to find out when they had actually started selling them, and thought maybe there'd be a mention of shipping them or of a problem around July 2....nothing on the site, and in fact the post mentioning the sale was deleted! I had a serious WTF moment, knowing I sent them $10 via PayPal for a set of buttons while I was out in MI in June. Okay, I'll take it up with Paypal. Filled out the dispute and found out that the seller has TWENTY days to reply. Okay, so I wait. No response for several days. Today, I get a ship notice with a DC number from paypal, and the following message replying to my inquiry on paypal:
Oh hai Flutterby Design!Your buttons were shipped out on Friday via USPS. Here is your confirmation code for tracking purposes: 9101148008600316005304.We apologize for the delay. While we did begin shipping orders on July 2nd, there was such a rush of orders during the first two days that we've been trying to catch up on.We removed the sale post from our site because we did not want to take more orders while we were still working on fulfilling orders already made.Let us know if you have any other questions.tofuburger
Okay...Well, firstly, I'm glad I'll finally get my buttons, but uhm...you maybe should have told your customers "ZOMG TOO MANY ORDERS!" on a post, or instead of deleting the post selling them, amend the post to say "sold out" or something along those lines. The lack of communication makes me real glad it's just a website that sells buttons to advertise themselves and not an actual merchant. Still though. Have some brains.
Oh, and bank update: I got an apology over the phone. That was it. I didn't want to have to go over to the branch because I honestly don't have time between now and Monday to do it, and I'm surely not dragging SA to the bank when he's here!, but I guess tomorrow I'll have to go see if I can talk to the branch manager and get things taken care of. I want a new account number! I also think I'll follow sistahraven's advice and send a letter to the person who's statement I got to let them know the bank screwed up. sistahraven pointed out that sometimes banks don't even tell their customers when they do something like that, and as a former bank employee, I can completely vouch for that! Even when credit card numbers were stolen off of one of the laptops of the bank I worked at, all that happened was the people affected got anew bank card in the mail with a note that the old one would expire at the end of the month...no explanation. Yeah. gotta love banks.

» Holy Crap!
I opened the statement from the bank I have a savings account at, and they sent me someone else's statement. Our account numbers are apparently very similar. They have the same digits, just not in the same order (like if mine ended with 102, theirs ends with 201, that kind of thing).
So now what do I do? Do I send the statement to the address listed on the statement I got with a note "sorry, the bank screwed up and gave me your statement, and by the way, do you have mine?", do I contact the bank and close out my account before any damage can be done to it? I wonder how many other people this happened to, and HOW? I mean, I realize it's a tiny credit union, but even so, they shouldn't be making this type of mistake. And whereas I wouldn't do anything with knowing someone else's bank account number, that doesn't mean that someone else won't do something malicious. Should I contact the bank, and just ask them to give me a new account number? This is madness.

» Sweitzer Family Picnic
Which, I guess since it's at my aunt and uncle's farm (well, it used to be a farm), I guess it's really the G family picnic, but anyway.
I had a good time. More people showed up than we had thought were, and I mostly spent time with my cousins M, A, and their kids. Most shocking was finding out M got married! I didn't know she was engaged! I saw her husband briefly, and he seems nice. Hopefully, they'll come up for Thanksgiving so I can actually meet him. A's daughter, L, made it onto the all-star team for softball! :) L is the same age as E (L is ONE MONTH older) and yet....the differences between the two...WOW. L told me she weighs 80 lbs, and I wouldn't be surprised if E doesn't weigh twice that, or more. I know E is wearing clothing bigger than what I wear. L also seems to be a bit more mature than E. L also is more active, which I'm sure contributes to the weight. Either way, I'd love to see the two of them together to be able to compare them some more (heyy, let's put that human development degree to use!), but L's family never makes it up to the family Thanksgivings.
I also found some interesting things about one of my other cousins. Things that really worry me and have me concerned, but I don't think there's anything that can be done to help her. She's spiraling down a pretty bad path, though. She also is barely communication with her family, including me. But she works at Towson Town Center, so I might have to take a trip down there and catch her at work and use visiting _falnfenix_ as an excuse for my being there.
"little" C (age 15) and W (age...8, i think) spent a lot of time playing together. Mom thought it was weird until I pointed out that when I was 15, I was playing with M and P, who would have been 5 and 9 at the time.
A lovely stormed rolled in sometime in the afternoon, but it never actually rained. Just a lot of noise and lightening in the distance. I spent most of the time with M's little girl, C, while M got their things together to leave. C is soo cute, I'm hoping I've got a picture of her. Every time there was a clap of thunder, she'd cover her ears. It was adorable.
Food-wise, I was glad mom and I decided to take over and bring what Aunt Barb usually brings. I realized that I usually eat the stuff she brings (veggie tray and cheese tray) and if we hadn't brought that along...I'd have had to live off red beet eggs. I suppose I could have asked G for a piece of cheese to put on a bun with some tomato and stuff, but the thought hadn't occurred to me since I had the veggie tray.
The ride home was great. Until we hit Cecil County Fair traffic. We were in traffic for an HOUR to move one mile. And then mom went through a red light, because she for some reason thought it should be green.
Got home and pretty much collapsed. I was wiped out! then, the storms came and I woke up a bunch of times from loud thunder, and we kept having flickers of either power or cable, I can't tell which. My clock was still normal, but my download onto my external got messed up a few times.
And now another storm is rolling in.
also, I've decided I can't ever look in the meat case at Weis again. The other day, we saw this lumpy stuff and didn't know what it was, and it was Pig Stomach (hog maw before it's stuffed). Okay, that I can handle. But today I saw a big Styrofoam thing of CHICKEN FEET and then Pig legs/hooves. I honestly almost threw up right there in the grocery store. I'm usually okay with looking at meat products, but.....Ewwwwww.
And now, time to make some dinner.

» stupid storm
It stormed pretty badly last nght.
Wouldn't have been a problem, except that I got woken up three times by really loud claps of thunder, and then it took me ages to fall back asleep because of the flashes of lightening. Bah.
And, it kept knocking out the power, and it even messed things up with my download to the point that I had to restart twice.
Also was bad in that I went to bed early from being tired from the picnic, and then kept being woken up, so I slept all morning.

» Swap organizing frustrations.
So. It's the LAST DAY to ship for the "Swap for our Mom's" swap on Craftster. I had a small group, and I thought this would be good for me as a first-time organizer, but it's proved to only give me headaches!
1. Sign-ups started while I was out in MI and crossed over my coming home. In the middle of all that, SA and I had to deal with TWO "floods". I'd constantly post updates to where I was so people knew when I was unavailable and why they weren't signed up yet, and still people complained that I wasn't adding people to the list fast enough.
2. The end date for sign-ups was June 30th. I told people they'd have their partners by the morning of July 1. Apparently, this also wasn't good enough an someone complained that they wanted their partner on June 30. I know NO swap that has that fast of a turn around for issuing partners.
3. Someone shipped early, because they needed the feedback to do another swap, and it just so happened that I was also shutting down my website viewings to read HP. She complained that I "needed to be around". I spoke to a mod, who told me that it was fine I was gone since I told the group and there's no rule that says feedback has to be listed right away. THEN, this girl tries to get her feedback out of me based on DC saying "delivered", and that's not how we do things unless it's been like a week of nothing out of their partner. Their partner HAS to tell the organizer when they get thier package.
4. Several of my members live in countries whose POSTAL SYSTEM has gone on strike! (Israel and UK). However, I cannot find information to verify either strike online.
5. Shipping is today and I haven't heard ANYTHING out of at least half my swapees.
Oi!

Firstly, No WONDER there's so many HP references in Doctor Who, David Tennant was Barty Crouch, Jr!!
Secondly, Doctor's visit. It was fine, no problems at all, other than the whole sitting in the doctor's office naked except for the gown for 45 minutes, when the exam itself takes 10! I showed him the spot on my arm where my blister burn left white dots, and he said that was normal. It will probably take until next summer for it to go back to normal color, but he said I could try a self tanner if it really bothered me. It doesn't bother me at all, I just wanted to make sure I didn't do any permanent damage. Obviously he said to keep an eye on the freckles at the burn spot to make sure they don't change, but since I took good care of it when it happened it shouldn't leave any permanant marks. (yay antibiotic ointment!)
Thirdly, Driving with my aunt. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, I swear. When she drives, she sort of wiggles the wheel back and forthl. Not enough to be swerving, but enough for it to make me feel queasy! I don't even think she's aware of doing it, and i think it's a throwback from driving non power-steering cars.
Fourthly, what is it with the women in my family and being stupid when it comes to their cars? my aunt's car is making this sort of crunching noise whenever she goes over a bump. I thought her muffler might have been loose and it was hitting things, but I checked that and it's firmly attached. I asked her if she knew it was making that noise and she says "yes, it's been doing that for a while". Seriously. WHAT THE EFF? If your car is making a funny noise, you NEED to get it at least looked at asap! At the very least you can find out if it's a major problem or something minor. you don't want to cause an accident because part of your car falls off while you're driving!
Fifth, I think I pissed off my aunt. We were talking about money, jobs, etc. and she said to me that once I get a job, I ought to "help mom out" with bills. I told her that I already DO help pay some of the bills, and as soon as I have a job offer, I'm moving. I'm not applying for jobs in this area because I don't want to live here anymore! I'm DONE with Lancaster County, York County...heck, maybe even with PA. I'd be willing to work in Philly, perhaps, but that's about the only area of this state I'm remotely attached to. (of course, if Penn State wants to offer me a job, I won't be saying no to that). The only way I'd stay in Lancaster is if I'm working for M'ville or Etown. (or one of the other colleges, but i haven't seen any positions open at F&M or York College that I'm qualified for)
Sixth, Eckard is really screwed up in their Pharmacy department. This morning I called in the LAST refill on my birth control, and while I was at the doctor's office, he sent to the pharmacy a prescription for "one with 11 refills", meaning a year's worth.. The pack I was picking up today should say "zero" on the refills, and the new prescription should go in as 12 refills, since it's the same thing. Well, I pick up my prescription, and it still says "one refill". So, I ask forf confirmation on the 12 months on the new one, and question why there's one refill left when I just had the last refill filled. The tech kept trying to tell me that I "didn't pick up my refill" once, so it went back into the computer. Right. I didn't pick up a monthly pack of BC. I don't THINK so. So, I talked to the pharmacist, and he fixed it and looked and saw the problem. For whatever reason, when the pharmacy filled a refill for my mom, they accidentally filled one for me too. When mom and I were there to pick up hers and they told me I had one there, I had the pharmacist back it out of the system since I wasn't ready for the new pack yet. the tech, however, left it lay in the tray, and so after the two weeks or whatever, he put it back into the computer. Oi. THEN, the tech put in the new prescription as "11 months" because it was getting filled today. But I was only picking up ONE pack. the last refill on last year's, not the first refill on this year. THANK GOD FOR A COMPETENT PHARMACIST. He knew what I meant, and fixed everything in the computer. But really, they're not giving me good reason to not change to CVS* after the official merge with Rite Aid.
*We know I won't be switching to CVS though. Since CVS's prescription database is nationwide (I already checked), and a certain someone works for a CVS, I'll never be using CVS again. I even had CVS delete my records off their system (and reported him, but of course since I wouldn't let them use my name in the reporting it didn't matter.)

» Mom's car update
Car
so, AAA came yesterday and jumped it, and we had to drive it around for a bit and Mom was told it would be fine in the AM. She went out late last night ,and it didn't start. So..this morning she called AAA, they told her it was her battery, nd instead of her driving over to somplace like Sears that does battery installs for free, she went all the way over to the dealer. Cost her $140, but now she's got a brand spaking new battery.
Will
He's been back on his regular food since friday, and hasn't thrown up at all. So, I definitely say it was the IAMS food.
Me
I'm deep into Season 2 of Doctor Who, and loving it. Why didn't anyone tell me it was about time travel before?!

» This is how much I love England/London:
I realize everyone and their brother is probably deep into the newest season of Doctor Who, but I never got into it. My cousin reads the books and maintains a pretty good Doctor Who website, but, I didn't get into it. syrg sent me seasons 1-3. I started watching, and wow, I really really like this series. Why didn't anyone else tell me? (also silveradept, I think you'd like it too). Anyway. Here is a reason why I love England and London waay waay too much:
( cut for potential season one Doctor Who spoilers ) I think this also means I should go visit soon.
Soon, Soon. I already decided against S&D4 if there is one in favour of at least going and visiting England. So... 2009 people. Mark your calendars.

Find out your Harry Potter personality at LiquidGeneration!
Happy Birthday Pi and Laura!
I had my book in my hands walking out at 12:05, being the 4th person ithe Ravenclaw line. Someone ahead of me in one of the lines flipped to the last page and shouted out the last line of the book to the waiting crowd. Poor people.Thankfully, I was in the store and didn't hear it.
Anyway. The evening was cute. Still toomany games and activities for kids, BUT some of the quizzes and stuff were HARD. I got 45/50 on the DADA "exam" (missed 5 questions),and I did well with the others too. Muggle Studies was a piece of cake - it was jsut this really easy crossword puzzle about Muggles. I had to LJ bvefore I start reading because I have to tell this story.
One of the questions on the crossword was "Muggles use ___________ to have light". There was a little girl of maybe seven or eight or so trying to do the puzzle and she was having a pretty bad time at it. the word was 11 letters long and had an R in the middle somewhere. Her first guess was "lightbulb", but it didn't fit. then, she guessed "lampost",and that doesn't fit either. She looked to her mom, and her mom couldn't figure out the answer! so, I gave her a clue. I told her it was what muggles use to make the light work, and then she guessed "electricity". She asked her mom how to spell it, and her mom said "I don't know"!!!! So, I spelled it for her. Next question: "How Do Muggles talk long distance?" girl suggested "a phone call", but it didn't fit. mom suggested "cell phone?" and it fit, only we knew the word started with a T. think, think, what starts with T that has to do with making calls? Oh, what's that? A TELEPHONE? DING! So, I gave her the hint "what do you talk on when you make a call?" and she got it. THEN, we had the joke question - "What is the purpose of a Rubber Duck". The answer was 4 letters. We had P_a_. The girl, again, needed help with it. mom, once again, was NO HELP. so I asked her "what do you do with your friends?" and she very tentatively said to me "play?" so I asked her if it fit, and it did. Through our system of clues, and with her mom constantly saying "I don't know", she got the whole puzzle filled out and earned her 5 house points. Bonus question was "what magical creature runs Gringots?" and she was thinking and thinking about it and finally whispered to me "a ghost?" and I told her she was on the right track, to think of something else that started with a G, and then she got Goblin. the little girl gave me a hug for helping her, but all I could think was "wow, mom, i hope your kid gets a better education than you"
And now that I've slurped down a very suggary and caffeinated iced beverage and changed into my jammies, I shall put on some music and curl up with the very last Harry Potter book.
Oh, and for some reason, even though they had signs of "free posters"....we didn't get any. BOOO. But I did score a free water bottle.
Anyway....
Do not Disturb. Thanks!

» Will's sick! :(
Will doesn't like Iams food. Or, he's allergic to something in their food. He's thrown up after eating it for the past three days. I had a coupon for Iams, so I picked up their "healthy weight" formula, thinking it would be similar to Purina One's. (and really, the coupon, while saving me $3, was only .20 cheaper than Purina. Stupid me.) It's got different stuff in it, including Chicken over Turkey and using Sorghum instead of Rice. Here's a comparison chart Purina provides. Iams provides no such comparison on their site, perhaps because they know they have an inferior product. Regardless, I am throwing out the remaining Iams food, contacting Iams because they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and getting him a bag of his regular food, Purina One. Having Will throw up each time he eats isn't a good thing!
I've also set out extra water dishes for him throughout the house in case he's feeing too tired to walk back to the room with the food. Last night he was very mellow, sleeping at the foot of my bed all night and wanting cuddles out of me. Today, he was a little more active, but I also dumped out nearly all the Iams from his food container and fed him from the bottom of it where there was still some Purina from the last bag.
I hope putting him back on his regular food will make him feel better. It makes me upset when he's sick!

» Ginny got sorted into Ravenclaw! :(
Thanks to dawezl, I called up Waldenbooks (Borders Express now) and asked them what was going on for lining up tonight, and they told me they started handing out numbers, so if I could come over before 9pm I could get my spot in line.
This is where we are very happy we live in a smallish town. obsessed1 told me firehaze(with a number after her name, but i can't remember the numbers right now) waited in line at their Borders (Princeton, NJ area) from SIX AM to get her and obi-1 into the first few spots.
At first, I thought I had number 19, because that's what my wristband says, but the woman told me that it's less about the wrist band and more about the paper she gave me. My paper says NUMBER FOUR. However, my paper also sorted me into Ravenclaw. Ginny is not happy (something about Cho being a trollop. I really stopped listening).
Anyway, so after that, I treated myself to some Bubble Tea to console us, and then decided to walk the mall a little bit for some exercise. Then, I decided to check out Electronics Boutique for the price on used PS2s. $79 for the big one, $89 for the slimline one. The woman told me they test them before selling, and you have 30 days to bring it back if it doesn't work. Nice. So, I was all set to pull the money out of my savings account to get it and then I tried looking for the game(s) I wanted. The only one they had new was the new HP game, and it's $40. They didn't have any of the Katamari games, new OR used. Gah. So, seeing no point in buying the console without the game I want, my savings account is safe. For now. Then, I decided to check the OTHER Game Stop/EB in the mall, but still no Katamari. AND that store has the used slim units for $99.99. Weird. I can, however, get We (heart) Katamari on Ebay for about $30 brand new/sealed, and a sealed memory card for $8.99. This definitely helps with convincing myself to get it. However, even if I had gotten it today..I'd have played for what? 3 hours and then not touched it all weekend? Yeah, better to at least wait until after we read HP to think about it. Although, if I can get my hands on We (heart) Katamari before the family picnic next weekend, I can bring it along and play on my cousin's system while the little kids are all in the ool. (Yes, my cousin has one of those "welcome to the ool. Notice there's no P, let's keep it that way" signs)
I look at this the same way I looked at wanting Doc Marten Mary Jane's. I wanted them for five or so years before finally laying out the $80 for them, and I wear them all the time, to the point where I bought a second pair in brown to match all my outfits. I've been wanting a Playstation for at least the past 6 or 7 years, and my interest in a PS2 started when it was explained to me that the PS2s can play PS1 games, too, and the Harry Potter Quidditch game came out for PS2. So, it's definitely something I want.
Anyway. I probably won't check LJ again until after I read HP. I don't want to read anything I don't want to see. When I start posting about the book, I will be putting the spoilers behind a cut tag, and I will warn you profusely that it contains spoilers and up to what point it contains spoilers for. The books about 700 pages, yea? So then, if I don't go to sleep/get tired, I might have it finished by morning. with HBP, I went to bed around 4am that day, woke up around 10, and had it finished by 2pm I think. but before tonight, I must finish "the Great Snape Debate", because it will sort of be a moot thing once I read the last book.
PS:anyone know where I can get an icon with the Prince that doesn't have bananas on it?

piwacket sent me my yarn ball and oooh it's awesome! I have photos, I'm jsut lazy. I'll pull them off later. But the funnier thing is that Will MUST be smelling Merlin (Pi's kitty), because he has been giving the box and everything that was in it a good sniff!
I also got my summer book swap box. Three books only now I can't remember what I got, so I'll post it when 'I post photos.
Still waiting on a package from maa3120 (which is being mailed tomorrow) and my messenger bag from ofenjen (which she hopes will be delivered tomorrow!), and the mom swap package (which won't be mailed til wed).
Then, all I'm signed up for is another Fill-A-Box swap, and I'll be swapped out again for a while.
Pi also sent me the Border's book "The Great Snape Debate" and I want to get it read before tomorrow night, so off to read! :D

» Cruise Hotel
I keep forgetting to blog this, but we booked our hotel for the night before the cruise. We're staying at the Whitelaw. We still have room for one more person in our room, as our 4th roommate is staying with a relative the night before, so if you're going solo and want to split a room, let me know. It'll work out to be about $55/each if we have 4 people - Probably one of the cheapest hotels on Miami Beach. (with the three of us, it's $74/ea) They offer a free shuttle from the airport, and it's about a 5 minute taxi to the port. The reviews on Travelocity are mixed -- but I noticed that the "bad" reviews all came during Spring Break, and the good reviews all came in February, June, and September, so my theory is that things are just strained during Spring Break time because of all the college kids. Since we won't be there at spring break time...who cares? Plus, it's for one night. As long as it's bug-free, I'm good.
Please note: We'd be looking for a fourth girl to share with us, or a boy who's not about to oogle us. Thank you, but I am not a piece of meat and I refuse to sleep with one eye open.
Now I just need my flight, but I've been waiting on doing that until October or so, just in case I'd need a different departure city other than Philly or BWI.

Apparently, I make a good London Broil.
I made a marinade I found online -
1 packet of seven seas italian dressing 2 tbs olive oil 2 tbs white wine
mix together. "score" the meat (or poke holes with a meat fork), brush on the marinade onto both sides, let sit in the fridge for an hour. Broil in oven for 7-10 minutes each side.
Of course, I haven't eaten it, but mom has, and she said it's good.
